PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since qualification from University, A.L. Khan has been involved in all aspects of Architectural Consultancy including:-

- Preparation of Preliminary Studies including Feasibility Studies

- Preparation of Project Briefs for various kinds of projects such as office buildings, banking premises, institutional facilities (including university faculty buildings), hospital/health centre renovations, executive & non-executive residences aong others.

- Preparation of sketch designs, working/production drawings and detailed drawings.

- Preparation of Contract Documents including drawing up specifications in the absence of Bill of Quantities.

- Post Contract Management including holding regular site meetings, consultants meetings and client appraisal meetings.

- Establishing maintenance programmes both for advisory and implementation stages - after implementation of projects.

ACHIEVEMENTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

- A.L. Khan was the main initiator of computerisation of the practice of Mruttu Salmann & Associates-which was one of the pioneer firms to venture into the IT world in 1989. He wasthe main responsible architect in-charge of the Computer Aided Design and Drafting section of the practice.

-A.L.Khan introduced the firm to early versions of " AutoCAD " beginning with version 2.3 on to ver.9 and today the firm extensively uses version 14 and 2000. At present,Khan is involved in the development of the use of ArchiCad version 6.0 and the later version 6.5.This exercise is on going and complementary programmes such as "Artlantis" and "3-D Studio "also being incorporated into the IT section.

-Apart from CADD programme,Khan is well versed with all MS office programmes including Excel,MS Word, Corel Draw etc.

EDUCATION,CONFERENCES & CPD

Today it is mandatory for all kenyan registered architects to attend Continuos Professional Development (CPD) Courses.A.L.Khan is an active attendant of most seminars,conferences and workshops organised by the Architectural Association of Kenya.The Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors and Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya.

1. AAK/CAA Seminar on " Marketing and Project Management " held at Whitesands Hotel , Mombasa organised by the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) ON 8th/9th May 1997.

2. AAK seminar on "CPD" held at Utalii College,Nairobi organised by AAK and Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors held on 31st May 1999.

3. BORAQS seminar on "CPD" held at Bomas of kenya, Nairobi organised by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors held on 31st August 1999.

4. Commercial Projects presentation held at National Museums of Kenya, Nairobi organised by the Architectural Association of Kenya(AAK) on 3rd January 2000.

5. AAK series on " The Nairobi We Want" held at Grand Regency Hotel,Nairobi organised by AAk on 5th February 2000.

6. AAK series on " The Nairobi We Want " held at Grand Regency Hotel,Nairobi organised by AAK on 14th April 2000.

7. AAK/IQSK series on new "Contract for Building Projects" held at Grand Regency Hotel,Nairobi organised by AAK and IQSK on 11th March 2000.
